An action potential (AP) moves down an axon towards a buton (axon terminal) -when it reaches the buton it causes #1 channels to open and it moves by #2 into the buton (synaptic knob) and triggers the release of the neurotransmitters, such as Acetyl Choline (ACh). ACh moves by means of #3 across the synapses to receptors located on the #4 of the post synaptic neuron. This causes sodium gates to open on the nerve cell membrane. Sodium will move by #5 from ECF to ICF causing the cell to #6. #7 is caused by potassium moving #8 by means of #9. The sodium potassium pump will use #10 to move ion back to their pre-Action Potential positions. |
